Accessibility

My aim

I want this website to be easy for everyone to use, including people who use a screen reader, a keyboard or magnification, and people with low vision. It follows the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at level AA.

What is in place

• Clear typeface: Arimo, a plain sans-serif font, with body text at least 16 pixels and generous line spacing.
• Sufficient contrast for text and controls, and a light veil behind text on images.
• Full keyboard operation, a visible focus outline and a “Skip to content” link at the very top.
• Clear headings and landmarks for screen readers, and text descriptions for all meaningful images.
• Forms with visible labels and clear hints right next to each field.
• If you have turned on “Reduce motion” in your system settings, animations are shown at rest, in their final state.
• All content also works without JavaScript.

Known limitations

• The picture story at the very top of the home page comes together as you scroll. Its content is also given as text beside it.
• Some older photos from the archive are only available in low resolution.
• The phone in the social media section shows snapshots of Instagram, YouTube and Facebook. You can operate the switcher above it with the arrow keys. The posts and videos themselves are hosted by the providers, where they are outside my control.

Legal classification

The Barrierefreiheitsstärkungsgesetz (BFSG, the German Accessibility Strengthening Act) does not apply to this website, because White Timber Cottage is a microenterprise offering services (§ 3(3) BFSG). Even so, the website was built to meet the requirements above.
