When a quilt is based on someone else’s pattern, I name its source: The Halo (pattern by Jen Kingwell), Coming Home and Windy Washday (patterns by Sarah Fielke), A Star is born (based on a tutorial by the Missouri Star Quilt Company) and the Vignettes Quilt (made in Heidi Parkes’s Quilt Along).

All photos of Caroline Rathke, her house and her quilts are real photos from her archive.

Some images are illustrative images generated with artificial intelligence. They show no real people and no rooms, quilts or work by White Timber Cottage; the image bands and the meadow carry a small “AI” label with a pop-up notice. This applies to:

  • Home page: the image at the very top with the wooden floorboards, the shirt, the blouse, the linen and the hexagons cut from them, plus the image bands with the wicker bowl and the spools of thread, and the summer meadow behind the clothesline (the quilts on the line are real photos)
  • the image bands on the other pages (sewing machine, fields, shirts, garden, clothesline, wooden spoons, thimble on moss, silver thimble on a hand-quilted quilt, mason jars, rolled-up binding)
  • Quilt services: the pink floral fabric in the price calculator sketches
  • the denim of the two hexagon buttons in the corners
  • the row of pink stitches used as a decorative line under links and between sections
  • at the end of every page: the linen of the label and of the patches, and the floral fabric of the binding at the very bottom

This labeling follows Art. 50 of Regulation (EU) 2024/1689 on artificial intelligence (the EU AI Act). The image files also record their origin in machine-readable form.

Liz of stamptout drew the White Timber Cottage logo, the drawing at the end of every page (the white wooden house, the clothesline with the quilt, the meadow with cats and flowers) and the drawing of Caroline with a needle, a spool of thread and a cat on the “About Caroline” page. In that drawing, the shirt and the thread have been colored in the White Timber Cottage colors. For the website, the drawing at the end of every page has been extended to the left and right with hills, little flowers and clouds in the same style.

Caroline Rathke created the small drawings of herself on the thank-you and notice pages with ChatGPT, based on Liz’s drawings.
