Quilts from fabrics that tell stories
I’m Caroline. I sew memory quilts from the clothes of people you love, baste, quilt and bind your quilts, and show you how to sew your own.
- A shirt, a blouse, a piece of linen.
- Cut out the parts you want to keep.
- Piece by piece, something new takes shape.
- And so three fabrics become the first block of a Grandmother’s Flower Garden.
What I offer
What would you like to do with your fabrics?
Some fabrics are meant to become something new through my hands. Some through yours. And some pieces turn out loveliest when we make something from them together.

Sew together
Sitting together, making something new from old things and talking about life along the way: I’m planning sewing circles and my favorite program with memory quilts and quilts without the math. The first dates are not set yet.

Memory quilts
“I know which quilt someone needs.”
Some fabrics nobody ever throws away. The shirt that hung on the coat rack for so long. The blouse with the little flowers. The sheets you slept under as a child. These are the fabrics I sew into memory quilts.
Before I sew the first seam or dare the first cut, I want to get to know the people behind the fabrics. I ask about their favorite color, the colors of their home or their sofa, and about their stories. I suggest patterns and ways to work with the fabrics, and together we decide what kind of patchwork it will be.
You decide in your own time which pieces go in. There is no rush, and you are welcome to start with just a question. (A consultation by video call then costs 30 euros.)

Scarcity sparks far more creativity than unchecked consumption.

About me
I’m Caroline, and I sew quilts from fabrics that tell stories.
Why is it called White Timber Cottage? I live in my white-painted timber house. It’s as simple as that. When I chose the name for my brand many years ago, it felt right to name it after the house, and it has served me well.
I have been sewing and quilting for more than 15 years. I have made more than 100 quilts, I love repairing the old black sewing machines that sit around in so many homes, and I love new sewing machines too.
My quilts are made of fabrics that tell stories: worn shirts, much-loved bed linens, inherited fabrics, leftovers from projects finished long ago.
Come in, sit down and have a look around!

Hung neatly, the way my grandma liked it
My grandma had two long clotheslines in her garden, and it mattered to her that everything hung neatly. Here are a few of my quilts on the line. Pull the line to the side.

Made entirely by hand, 20 × 15 inches

The fabrics were donated to me by Andrea Kollath of the Quiltmanufaktur in Frankfurt am Main.

Made from used flannel shirts.

Inspired by Vanessa of Crafty Gemini.

My favorite quilt!

English paper piecing is hand sewing with paper templates: you wrap fabric around a paper hexagon, baste it in place and sew the pieces together by hand. To get started, all you need are small pieces of fabric, a needle, thread and paper.
My hexagon templates come in three sizes, true to scale and ready to print. They are my thank-you when you sign up for Letters from the Cottage.

Sew together
Sitting together, sewing and talking about life
Making something new from old things, getting together with other women and talking about life as we sew: that is the kind of group I would love to lead. And then there is my favorite program with memory quilts and quilts without the math, for anyone who wants to sew something lasting from their own fabrics and would rather skip the math.
The first dates are not set yet. If you would like to join, put your name on the waitlist. You’ll be the first to hear from me.

Social media
Peek over my shoulder while I sew.
On Instagram I share almost every day what I’m sewing, what’s growing in the garden and what’s hanging on the line. Sometimes finished quilts, often works in progress, and every now and then a UFO, an unfinished object that finally gets finished.
On YouTube you’ll find my coffee chats about hexies, Y‑seams, Tula Pink fabrics and the history of the log cabin block, plus a livestream in which I choose my pieces for an exhibition with Kunstfreunde Wetter, the local art association.
And on Facebook you’ll find my White Timber Cottage page: patchwork, quilting and community, with photos and reels from the cottage.
